Luckily, Microsoft Word offers an easy way to switch back from the multiple pages side-by-side view to a single page view with the click of a mouse button.

Besides that, many users switch to the Focus mode in Word program while editing, which also displays two pages side-by-side by default. Having only one page on the screen at a time helps you focus better. Most users, including me, would like to see just one page of a document at a time, especially while composing or editing a document. Although this is a nice feature to have as you can simultaneously view two pages side-by-side, many users find it a distraction. Needless to say, this happens only when the document consists of more than a page. It can also happen that someone has changed MS Word settings to show the document side by side. For instance, if you run the MS Word app on a 4k 24” resolution monitor, Word will show two pages side by side. On a computer with a high-resolution screen, the Word program automatically displays multiple pages of a document side by side at the same time. The MS Word program displays multiple pages side by side on a high-resolution widescreen monitor. If you are running the Microsoft Office Word program 2016 or 2019 on your Windows PC and noticed the Word program shows several pages of a document side-by-side, you are reading the right post. Word 2013®, Word 2010® and Office Word 2007 all use a file extension. Viewing the documents and making text edits to documents created in newer versions of Word® is not a problem. In most cases this is now only a problem if someone wants to change the formatting.

There are compatibility packs available for free online for anyone still using these versions. In older versions of Word® (Word 97-2003) there are sometimes problems with compatibility with newer version of the program. Cloud services are discussed later in this course. There is also an option to open files that are stored in SkyDrive (a Windows® cloud service). If you wish to open a document you created earlier, choose Open in the File tab and you will see a list of the documents stored on this computer. If this is the first time you have saved the document or if you want to keep the older document as well as this updated version, choose Save As and you will be given options of what to name your document and where to save it. Note that if you are using the Word in Focus mode, please move the mouse cursor to the top edge of the screen to see the ribbon, including menu names. To save your document, choose Save in the left column if you are saving an updated version of a document you have saved before. Step 1: When the Word program displays two pages in side-by-side mode, click on the View tab and then click on the Vertical option to quickly switch back to the default single-page mode.

In later versions of Word® your document is replaced with a screen that provides you with a number of options to check your document in preparation for saving or sending. When you click on it, it opens a little differently with a column displaying on the left rather than across the top. The File tab is at the far left of the Word® toolbar (also called a ribbon).
